Yes, it's spring time and you know what that means. After today's drive back from work, I wonder; why do cyclists ride on the road when there is a path running parallel to the road? It would be much nicer for me not having to drive at 15 mph, and then you don't have to curse at me for passing "too close".

Are people still this ignorant? Bikes have as much right on the road as any automobile, and it is illegal to ride a bike on a sidewalk.

If a biker passes me in my own lane while I'm waiting for a red light then I am going to do the same to them when they are in my way, it's only fair. I've got no problem with bikers who don't do stupid shit.

Only in some places.

Also, many bikers completely screw things up. There is a speed limit, and in most cases, speed minimum. With bikes, they often can impede the ability of traffic to travel near the posted limit. Thus, creating more danger.

Cities just need to expand the concept of bike lanes or more trails.

Bike path != sidewalk. (assuming by "path" he didn't mean sidewalk)

I saw the same thing today too. No one had a helmet on and they aren't using the designated bike path. WTF ITS MADE FOR YOU AND YOUR BIKE RIDE IN IT.

It's only the cyclers who purposely know they are making you drive slower or in the left lane. Not all are to blame.
15mph is pretty slow. Sounds like someone who wanted attention. I can do up to 22-25 with minimal effort on a road bike.

My problem is so many cyclists try to claim the same rights as a car on the road, then do things like run red lights, turn when they shouldn't, etc. They want to be treated the same as any other vehicle on the road only when it's convenient and that is the part that irritates me.

That's fine, but either pedal faster or move over to the side of the road more so I can pass you safely.

I've been stuck behind cyclists that go 15 mph in a 30 mph zone. They are smack dab in the middle of the lane and of course there is oncoming traffic so I have to wait forever to pass.

Believe it or not, I actually find the streets far safer than most MUPs. Between joggers with headphones, clueless dog owners, and children I'll choose the streets any day.

And here we go with the cyclist hating motherfuckers...let me tell you about this time I was inconvenienced, blah blah blah blah blah, I should have killed that motherfucker for making me not kill him...being considerate is not in my nature as a completely self-absorbed fucking prick.

If it was a bike path, then yes, the cyclist should be using that lane.

Cyclists that don't wear helmets don't have anything to protect.

I dislike that as much as anyone else, and they should be ticketed for failure to obey traffic laws.

I have never seen a cyclist get a ticket. Ever.

For the record I actually prefer having cyclists on the road as opposed to the sidewalk, as a pedestrian ~ 85% of the time (I rarely drive), bikes on the sidewalk really drive me mental.

I have yet to have a cyslist offer to pay to fix the dents they leave in my doors when I sideswipe them.

The only thing that I think I do illegal is when going one direction with traffic flow, then make ways into the left turn segment and act like a car waiting on the oncoming traffic to open up.

Or I may just go perpendicular from some intersection into the turn lane when the coast is clear.

I should probably use the traffic signals but eh!

I've been stopped before for blowing a stop sign if that's any consideration for you...but I wasn't ticketed (it was a T intersection and I was on the straight away section-a motorist would have to have gone over a sidewalk and through someone's lawn to impede my direction of travel).

And for the record, I've never blown a red light and I always will yield right of way at a 4 way stop for automobile traffic. The only time I haven't stopped at a stop sign is when there is no other vehicle traffic around me...honestly, I don't see the point.

Every time Jules, every single time. What don't you get? Just because you and your buddies are saints on bicycles (which you admit isn't even true) doesn't mean the other 99.999% are. I mean San Diego must be the perfect-bicyclist capitol of the world because you always act none of them anywhere do anything wrong.

The only time I ever see a cyclist acting properly, they are wearing tight bright clothes and have a number on their back. They are the only ones I ever see always wearing helmets, obeying traffic laws, riding STRAIGHT and not weaving the hell all over the place looking like they're gonna swerve right in front of traffic, etc etc etc.

Maybe it is better where you are, but damn, come to VA on a nice warm sunny day and observe how clueless the cyclists are around here.

I won't take cyclists seriously until they are forced to carry some sort of basic insurance.

It's not really a bike path or a sidewalk per se. It's a paved trail that runs a little off to the side of the road. I haven't actually rode on it, so I can't comment as to the quality, but it looks no worse than other trails I've been on.

Believe it or not, I actually find the streets far safer than most MUPs. Between joggers with headphones, clueless dog owners, and children I'll choose the streets any day.

Normally I accept it; I follow at speed and try not to ride right up on their ass. This often takes a while since the road bends a while and I don't want to try passing while on a curve. However, if there's a straight away and I see no cars incoming (or one far enough away) you better believe I'll pass as fast as I can. The cyclist I passed was fine (as far as I know), it was two further up the road, riding in the opposite direction who cursed at me. I was annoyed that they were yelling at me about space when they felt it was fine to ride abreast.

Really, I've come to accept that this road has bikes when the weather is good. I was just pissed off today because those bikers came with an attitude. I wasn't the only car that passed either, so if they thought I was cutting it close I can't imagine how they felt about the car behind me.

Come to San Diego, most of the cyclists I see are wearing tight bright clothes, they don't have numbers on their backs but they are almost always wearing helmets and obeying traffic laws. It probably helps that we have dedicated bike lanes on most of the roadways here. Maybe you should vote for dedicated bike lanes and cyclist friendly legislation when it comes up in your area...just a thought.

Would you be fine with that knowing that your child will have to carry insurance just to ride her bicycle down your cul de sac? I say we make her carry no fault and medical riders on there too. How about collision and comprehensive too if you purchased her bicycle on a credit account?
