Occasionaly when I start my truck especially after I haven't used it in a while, it vibrates violently and shakes my truck a little. It usually turns the car off.

My Dad said I should give it a little gas in park and then shift to drive or reverse and it should work fine. I always forget to do that, so I'm not sure if it works. But why is my truck doing this in the first place?
 
Sounds like it may have to do with the motor not getting right fuel/air mix and the motor is not wanting to fire properly.
