YACT: Your thoughts on buying a 93 Honda Accord EX

My buddy is selling a 93 (4-door) Honda Accord EX. Here are some specs:

140,000 miles
5-speed Manual
Power Windows / Locks
Sunroof
Cruice Control
Alloy wheels
AC (needs to be recharged)
Good Stereo System
Interior still in good condition (plus he is a non-smoker)

He is asking for 1,000 bucks, but I may be able to talk him down to 800. Here are some problems with it:

ABS light is on
Exterior has some scuffing and dents
Back right window wont roll up all the way (slight crack in window)
Missing head rests

Besides that, the engine runs fantastic. I was testing it out last night, no weird sounds at higher rpms and higher speeds. Transminssion & clutch both work great.

I will be taking it to a mechanic to have it checked out this afternoon cause I may be driving around quite a bit in this vehicle.

thoughts?

if the mechanic says its in good condition, I would say that for under 1000 bucks thats a sweet deal. My first car cost me 800 and it was an 89 plymouth pos. 😛

Attempt to lowball them down to $800.

If they don't budge $900 or $1000 is a good deal assuming it's in good condition.

We had some lady selling an Accord in our neighborhood that was like 7 years old a few years ago, and she wanted over 8 grand for it (also with 140K miles). I guarantee you won't find anything better in that price range, so go for it!

I just sold my old 92 EX for $2,500. I kept it for a year after I bought my 04TL. The only reason I finally sold it was because I just couldn?t bear letting it just sit. It was the best car that I?ve ever owned.

Make sure someone knowledgeable looks at it. If it checks out OK then grab it.

I think you might have a DX or LX because the EX only came as an automatic.

Ok I checked it out at the mechanic and everything is in great shape

It is a 93 ex with 5-speed manual, trust me. Has ex on the back, power windows, auto locks, sunroof, etc....

It will cost me 200 bucks to get the AC working though 🙁 I could have dropped the price to about 800, but me and him are good friends and went through school together and I feel that this deal is good enough.

For $1000 it's a hell of a deal.

You would, however, be violating the "don't buy cars from friends" rule.

Make sure you're willing to laugh if the engine explodes as you're driving it away.

Viper GTS

$1000 is still good!

first thing i'd do is change out all the fluids. 😛

now order some headrests, fix the regulator or track on the rear window, touch up the body; finally give it a good spit shine and you're good to go! 😛

someone show him the million mile honda accord! 😉

Not true, there are definitely EX 5-speed out there.

Go for it! I'd buy it for $1,000 just in case my 97 accord ex breaks! My parents have a '92 accord lx for my sisters to drive and it's like a little go cart 🙂 Very fun to drive but no go-power on the highway.
