I just got a new 2-month old kitten from the humane society this afternoon. So far, he's great. he loves my new apartment, has found his water supply, hasn't got to the bathroom yet, but I've dropped him into his litterbox so he knows where it is.

Great cat. Fun cat.

Except when he jumps on top of the keyboard on my laptop. At first it was cute. After the fiftieth time of laughing and picking him up off of it, it's become old. Is he just seeking attention? Is it because the laptop is warm from the battery/CPU? And how do I get him to stop?!?!

Now he's behaving and sitting next to me, just proving me wrong. Evil cat... 😛

Your his/her mommy now, and it's looking for attention. Cats will also sit on any paperwork your trying to do, I think they want to leave asstracks to the tax man.

If you want to train your kitty to be a good cat, be sure to keep a spray pump nearby.
 
He's likely getting on the kayboar for attention, but it could be the heat. Generaly my cats rest on warmer things (stay off the router kitty!), and sit on "whatever your working on" for attention.
 
kitty will go whever kitty sees your hands. hands give food water and petting. laptop is also warm and kitty sized, and makes various sounds and whatnot for kitty to investigate
 
The person who can make "eternal" kittens will be rich.

I dont want a cat. I want a kittah, which is forever a kitty.
 
I always thought it meant he wanted to play "kitty-copter".
My newest cat is a stray. It doesn't have a name, I call him "kitty nipples" (although the wife says I'm not allowed to call him that when the kids are around). He's the only one who knows enough to stay out of the house. He caught a mole for me today, left it on the back porch. I found it when I stepped on it with the heel of my boot. It popped. Ackkk. :Q

I would opt for an orange drink. It would not only make the cat sticky but sweetened corn syrup inside laptops is always fun

Now... the kitten sees you as mommy... and it is in a new place, and after investigation wants to settle in on a place that is warm, secure and where he can see and be near you...

That is the cutest thing ever!!!

I gave up trying to train my cat to sit somewhere else besides my lap when I'm using my computer. But then my cat dozes off, she totally forgets that she is sleeping on my lap, she moves slightly and she claws my legs in a worthless attempt from falling.

whats worse is when the kitty has a dream and twitches, scares the hell out og me so i twitch. after i twitch kitty wakes up scared and jumps and that scares me so i jump. all this happens in about half a second.
 
lol I missed out on the Best Buy black friday digital camera deal (had the claim ticket, but the line was too damn long. I am typing on the laptop from said deal though. 😛 ) So, no pictures of the cat. Yet. 😀

I named him Memphis, for some odd reason. I figured it was better than Woodstock, which was the name posted at the pound.

I was reading through the pamphlets that they gave me when I picked him up, according to those, the water trick only really works when the cat can't obviously see you spray them. And since I happen to be typing at the time he tries to do his cat-dance, that idea wouldn't work. (nevermind the fact that I'm not getting water anywhere NEAR the laptop.)

This is my very first cat, 26 years old and I've been a dog person my whole life. My gf and I decided that I really needed someone to keep me company in the apartment. Besides her. 😛
 
My cat will do the same thing. She will also jump on top of my homework too when I'm working on it. She just wants attention.
