Looking to replace my aging 96 taurus that is falling apart.

I've narrowed it down to two cars:
a 2005 Mazda6 with 20k miles for 16k USD
a 2006 Scion tC new for 17k USD

Which would you guys think is better?

I despise Scion cars, but you get a warrenty with it, and the mazda might not have much of a warrenty left (depending on its length). If your into car modding, the Scion is better because it has many aftermarket parts.

Scion - but I'll admit, I'm heavily biased towards Toyota.

I don't know much/anything about the Mazda6, but I can't say I've heard anything bad about them. Which one do you prefer (test drive)?

What's wrong with the tC?

I've driven the Mazda6, and the handling and acceleration is superb... but only has a 4 year/50k mile warranty (also heard that tha trannys can sometimes overheat)
I'm going to test drive a tC again monday... 3 year/36k warranty...

Mazda 6.

Useable backseat, nice trunk, and a great car that was on Automobiles Best Ten cars listing for two years.

K. Your opinion doesn't count, then.

a 01'-03' maxima can run about $15k. much better car than both the tC and the 6... except fuel-wise.

My money would be on the 6. I'm in a similar boat as you, looking for a new car (probably a Mazda6) to replace my 97 Saturn SL. I dig the Mazda for its sportyness, looks, and practicality. I really dig the sport package look, and its a sedan and a coupe so you can actually use it to move more stuff/people easier. Sportyness, with acceleration, and handling. So my vote goes Mazda

I voted for the TC. It will be realiable since its toyota, it has a large aftermarket, and it is brand new so you don't have to worry about how it was driven.

Im guessing that Mazda 6 is the 4 cylinder? Stay away from that. Engine and trans are made in Mexico.

I'm not sure about the model you're looking at, but I remember when you couldn't get steering wheel radio controls with the 6. Gives it a low class feel when even teh 3 has so many features.
