YACT: YAY I finally found a REAL mechanic!

GasX

If you read this thread, you know I have had some issues with my Contour...

I finally found a mechanic in Hoboken who will talk to you without assuming you are an idiot, will let you into the shop, talk about what he has done for your car, and will fix the actual problem you bring to him...

If you read the linked thread, yopu will see I have spent a fair amount of cash and not seen my problem fixed. Well, Meet, Tony. Tony is a New Jersey racing legend from the 70's and knows his sh!t inside and out!

$200 and a $10 part and my oil light is off, my CEL is off and my car is purring. I also have an oil pressure sender that despite having been replaced by pep boys 300 miles ago, looks remarkably like it is an original part... :| FVCKERS!

Not only is this guy a mechanical genius... Not only is he a good guiy who will let you hang out and watch him work, not only is he a guy who tells you what he is doing and makes your car work, but he is also a guy who took a stock Pantera and turned it into a twin turbo 220+ mph monster. While he was installing the new oil pressure sender, his wife howed me his Pantera. Holy fvcking sh!t, this car is DA bomb!!!!

anywho, my car purrs and I finally found a mechanic I can trust in town.

Yay for me!!!

😀

no doubt!

Having him pull out a part that I paid to have replaced that was a "month old" and was covered in 5 years worth of gunk, pissed me off to no end!!!

I got a guy like that at the corner gas station. He knows me by name. I could tell he's l33t because I told him my year and model (95 Rodeo) and he instantly said it's a 3.2. I was like... whoa. WhoTF knows Isuzus ?!

Sounds like a mechanic I had when first learning about cars. Dirt floor garage, only worked at night, cranky as hell, always kept my car in top mechanical condition, and would troubleshoot for you over the phone. Can here him now, before my Friday night tune "you racin' on the mountain tonight or just cruisin' the center?" Joe Franco, here's to you.
Glad you found a good mechanic. Stick with him. They're few and far between. Take a couple of pizzas to the garage every now and again.

Is it common practice to not let you in the shop? I've only dealt with 3 shops since I've owned a car and one was a tire place (America's Tire Co.) and none of them has told me I couldn't go into the working area.

I've seen places actually raise the hourly rate if you want to watch.....

Huh. The guy at tire place actually encouraged me to come watch him mount my tires (mail-ordered wheels).

They actually say that?

Yeah. Insurance issues.....

Mom&Pop shops are less likely to care though.

Makes sense. Yesterday I almost bumped my head at least 5 times😛 (my friend's El Co was on a lift).

I hope he didn't charge you $210 to change out the oil sending unit!
No he solved a CEL issue and rotated the tires. It is nice to dive a car with no oil light and no CEL on all the time... 😀

Congrats on finding a great mechanic. And those Panteras are quite the sports car. I had the pleasure to work on four different models myself, but have yet to see a twin turbo version.

You must get pics... btw, does he happen to be able to do corner weighting at his shop? I've been trying to find a shop near me that does corner weighting. So far all I've gotten is 😕 looks from people.
