you only figured that now?

Their whole company goal has been efficiency, efficiency and efficiency.

And they are teh masters of small engines. Remember they used to make motorcycle engines long before car engines. In fact, their first car engine was based of a motorcycle's. Then they have small engines in lawnmowers, snowblowers, jetskis, outboard boat motors, motorcycles, atvs, generators, etc..

I think they are the largest producer of small motors in the world.

rofl... the stroke's only 2.5 inches....

haha.

still, that's awesome. i'll bet it's not as slow as you think. probably beats roger's westy 😉

The stroke "only" being 2.5" doesen't really mean much. It's all in the design of the rest of the engine. The compression ratio with "only 2.5" of stroke is still 9.5:1, which I imagine is very respectable for that time period, although I don't really know. The bore is only 2.15".

Yeah, I guess. I just didn't realize the high revving tendancy has been around for so long.

I dunno. What is considered a "small engine"? Less than 20CI?

I'm sorry I don't understand cubic inches. I think small engine is usually less than 800ccs.

The high revving tendency came from motorcycle engines (which usually rev quite high compared to cars).

Well, it does only weigh 1500 lbs...

Also notice that even then they were right at the 100 hp per liter that honda fanboys love to brag about.

Edit: hahahaha 37 ft-lbs of torque!!! And that's at 5500 rpms. Methinks that first gear should be a little higher. Like 5 something 😛

Yea, that puts it into perspective a little..

57HP from only 606CC is pretty respectable.

How many HP do the 600CC bikes put out nowadays?

LOL! 800CC's is huge. 😉 When you say small engine, I think 3 - 25HP single and twin cylinder engines used mostly in lawn and garden and construction equipment.

Chain final drive??

Like a motorcycle, there's a chain connected the rear diff to the tranny. No driveshafts here baby!
I kinda figured, but I didn't notice anything on the page mentioning that.

Interesting. Did he just know that about the car, or what? 😛
