YACT: Worcester Polytechnic Institute

Thus Far I?ve been accepted into: Northeastern University, Emmanuel College, Boston University, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and Stonehill College. I?ve been rejected by Boston College and Brandeis University. Out of ALL of these schools only Northeastern and WPI gave me any kind of aid. Northeastern gave me 5k/year (37k/year tuition + board) and WPI gave me 18k/year (43k/year tuition + board). At the moment I have 6k in the bank and hoping to have 15k by the end of the summer after working 2 jobs. I didn?t qualify for any federal aid because I?m not a permanent resident yet (have a green card). My parents are waiting for their interview (mom married step-dad whose an United States Citizen). I?m hoping that after working like a dog for my first year I?ll be able to qualify for aid in my upper-class years. I?ve scheduled an appointment for tomorrow with a WPI financial aid officer in hopes of squeezing out as much aid as possible. I found hidden in the site a section for international financial aid (I had to be admitted as an international student until I get my green card). Though to qualify I needed to have a form in by Feb 1st.

Cliffs:
- Got into: WPI, NEU, BU, Emmanuel, and Stonehill
- WPI and NEU gave aid
- NEU?s aid can suck it, WPI gave 18k/year
- Had to be admitted as an international student. Means I don?t get federal aid
- Have to work like a dog during the summer to save up 15k
- Hopefully by mid summer I?ll have my Green Card
- I?ll pay the rest with loans (about 10k)
- Need help on what to ask financial aid officer, like what options I have. What about State aid?

Damn that's alot of money. Talk to the fin aid advisor about work/study, alternative loans, alternative housing. I suggest WPI. Is there any problem with waiting a year until you get perm. residence?

I rather not as I'll only be around 10k in loans for hte first year. I'm sure I could pay that off a year out of college.

Go to NU, go the co-op route and help pay for it that way. I'd rather spend 5 years in Boston than 5 minutes in Worcester.
