YACT! Won't start with the key, but will start with a wire on the starter relay plug *fixed!*

Copy/paste from my thread on MR2OC - thought maybe someone here would have an idea..

----
My replacement starter relay came in today - I had hoped that would solve my problem. Unfortunately, it did not.

I can start the car by bridging the contacts for the starter relay, but I cannot start it with the key. I hear a very quiet click (main relay, I was told) when the ignition is turned to 'start.' The AM2 fuse is good..is there a fusible link somewhere that I could check? This is getting frustrating...I really don't like sticking a wire into the fusebox to start my car.
----

Update
Forgot about this thread..thought I'd update you all.

Turns out that a wiring harness plug (has the ground for the starter relay) was slightly disconnected -- enough that it didn't look like anything was out of place. It works fine now..heh.

have someone check the starter or solenoid. i assume the car starts with the key in the on position when you jump the relay.

make sure your insurance and registration/license are up to date. If somebody gets suspicious and thinks you might be hotwiring the car, they'll have you pulled over in a heartbeat.

If you want to keep your car the way it is until you can afford the time and money to fix it, put that fuse or link on a switch and flip the switch whenever you need to create a connection.

well if jumping the solinoid works. think about it. your not gettng power to the S terminal. check the IGNITION switch. either on the bottom of column, or in the column

manual? Those usually have a switch on the clutch pedal that cuts the power if the clutch isn't held down. It could have died. You could jump it real quick and find out. I had that same kind of problem on one of my old cars but it was an auto and the neutral safety switch.
