YACT:Windscreen replacement = Electrical problems!?! ARRRGH AUTOGLASS, AUTOASS MORE LIKE

I had a crack in my windscreen, so I call the lease company to get it replaced. They call out Autoglass.

- They replace the screen, all is well.
- Week later the rear view mirror comes off, hangs there due to rain sensor and dimmer for mirror.
- Visit from AUTOASS results in no fix - duct tape keeps the mirror in place, sort of, no intermittant wipe :|
- 3rd visit to replace the entire screen to fix issue. They totaly fvck up my car:|:|

So from a crack in the screen (fairly bad one) I now have:

- No remote lock/unlock
- No alarm
- Luggage compartment dash warning light half lit ALL THE TIME
- Passenger visor clip is broken off
- Rear view assembly is still loose <--Original issue

BUTHOLES:|<^>

Please

You have a short in either the relay, dimmer control module or wiring to the relay/module that dims the interior lights.

Thanks Rog, but I don't care. I am making them pay for a dealer repair. This is just a rant.

And it's not the interior lights, The car has a reactive rear view mirror that dims when needed. It has two light sensors on it, you know the type. That and the Rain sensor shiznit. They replaced ONLY the rain sensor. It only has two wires.....

No it isn't connected to the relay/module that dims the interior lights AFAIK. How would that control the darkness of the electrical mirror and darken it without affecting the action of the dim after ignition?

Car is VW Golf V6 4motion (W/rain sensor and auto dimming RV mirror)

Yes it is, they are on the same circuit, the dimmer module does not control the mirror but the mirror draws voltage from the module circuit.

Anyhoo, I still cannot fathom how when they just changed the rain sensor, they managed to stitch up my alarm and create a dashboard fault to boot.

Do you think they shorted something and before the fuse went it took out a dash component? The Luggae Compartment open light is half bright on and there is no text message on the info screen. Needless to say the rear hatch is not open.

Apologies if I sounded pissy, this has rubbed me up the wrong way today.

Don't sweat being pissy, I'd be pissed too if some half-assed mechanic screwed my vehicle up 😉

The only real way to tell is to follow a factory supplied wiring diagram, obviously the circuit that is shorted feeds all of these components and most likely connects to the ECM in some way.

UPDATE: I called them and demanded that they pay for all repairs to be completed by my VW dealer. They had to agree, so it's booked in.......for the 15th Oct:|

They tried to arrange a fixed price for the job with the dealer, but they are pretty sharp and explained that repairing a botche job could take any amount of time.

Essentially I have a blank check from AUTOASS for the repairs. At least thats something. 😀

Hope someone doesn't try to jack it over the next 2 weeks, no alarm. :|
