YACT: Why the big price difference between these throttle bodies?

I'm thinking of buy a 58mm throttle body for my Firebird. BBK makes one, so does Holley and LPE/Accel. The BBK one is only $300 compared to the Holley at $430 and the LPE/Accel at $600. Is there some reason the BBK one is that much cheaper? I've always thought BBK made good products. Or are you just paying for the name with the other two?

I haven't checked. I didn't know that was possible with the throttle bodies, just with the plenums.

I know people bore out stock honda TBs. I don't see why they couldn't bore out yours.

I think I'd rather just get a new one that's setup from the get-go to work. The stock one is pretty old as it is anyway.

The Holley and Accel are sold by Lingenfelter enterprises, that's why they are more expensive.

I'm not sure if it's like the TB's on the late model Mustangs, but the FMS is more than the BBK/Edelbrock/MAC units because it comes with a TPS sensor and the idle air bypass motor, which the others do not come with. Just make sure the cheaper one won't require new parts..:)

I don't think the stock fuel injectors will work with that size TB. I have seen problems with 305 TPI IROCs that ran like crap after installing a 58MM throttle body. You will have to get high performance fuel injectors too.

probably a dumb question, but what does boring out mean?

is the throttle body the same as air intake?

/puts on flame suit

It means just that.

The bore is the interior diameter of a circular hole.

Bore it out means to remove material from the inside diameter, making the hole bigger.

No, the throttle body isn't the same as the air intake. It's a little farther down the line.

I'm pretty sure none of them come with the TPS or IAC motor, but I'll double-check to be sure. Thanks.

I already do have larger injectors. The motor's not stock.

Yeah, I wondered if that wasn't at least part of the reason.
