YACT: why aren't beadlocks street legal?

they are not DOT aproved, wich doesn't necessarily make them illegal. in fact most cops probably wouldn't even know you had them

It's not that beadlocks are illegal, its that non-DOT approved equipment is illegal. You could go out and buy Hummer beadlocks and be completely legal.

Beadlocks are a tire mounting setup that effectively bolts the tire to the rim so it can't come off. Rock crawlers and dirt track racers use them alot since they take some wickedly brutal side loading on thier tall sidewall+low PSI tires

I suppose if you didn't feel like swapping enormous tires + wheels back and forth whenever you wanted to do some off-roading, beadlocks on a street vehicle would be pretty appealing. They look pretty impressive!

swapping them is a pain. Most guys do not enjoy swapping tires between offroad and onroad use and most of us cannot afford towrigs.
