YACT: Why are these muffler shops trying to rip me off??

Everyone i asked on various forums tell me that to install 2 mufflers (just replacing the old mufflers, and using the existing pipes), it should cost about 20-50 bucks a piece...however, all the shops i called quote me around $200....and that's after i tell them i'll be bringing in my own mufflers....jesus!!! anyone know of a good place in MD that won't rip me off??

go to meineke and tell them you are not going to pay alot for that muffler.;)



OR
find a local yokel that is mechanically inclined and just buy the part and have them put it in.

Crazy! My dad got all the pipe replaced on his Chevy PU for like 180$.

Open the phone book, and start calling all the mom&pop muffler shops.

what kind of a car? or truck that makes a big difference
what year,engine etc

around here i use Midas a lot

Thats nutz...Just had my muffler replaced today and paid 100.00 for all the pipes, labor and a Flowmaster 60 Series and this on a 99 S-10

As stated prior by others, look in the phone book, shop around, cant really give any reccomends since I live in California.

$140 of that is to lube your new muffler bearings. Those things use special hi-temp PTFE grease. If you are bringing your own mufflers, it is likely the bearings are currently dry, so they charge you for it.
