I am looking for a new vehicle which has third row seating
I do not want a minivan so have been looking at SUVs, prefer one that gets decent gas mileage....like the RAV4

I want to find which other vehicles offer this to compare.....

Please list any you know of, thanks!

You're going to have to think bigger to get a 3rd row seat. Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander, Mazda CX-9

The best gas mileage SUVs with a third row seat and good pulling power are the Cadillac SRX and the GMC Acadia (and its sister SUVs)

The vehicles that best meet your needs are the Toyota Sienna, the Honda Odyssey, the Hyundai Entourage, the Chrysler Town and Country, etc.

But if you're the type of person who buys pasta when you need the stuff to make a sandwich, then go right ahead and keep looking for that SUV.

Uh, I don't think that those selections meet his needs best.

yes, they really do. His needs are 1. Decent MPG, and 2. Move lots o people. his WANTS are an SUV, which is actually counterintuitive to both of those.

A minivan is SOOOOO much more comfortable for passengers then an SUV.

Our Explorer does, and we've had it for 4 years with zero problems :)

EDIT: It's also very comfy too. I'm 5'11" 205lbs and I'm quite comfy in the 3rd row.

Minivans are more expensive and are all V6 which gets poor gas mileage

So far I have found the RAV4 and the Mazda 5 which are cheaper, have 3rd row seating and they are both 4cyl and get 24/30 mpg.

anything else similar to that?

just make sure you go test drive and test sit the vehicles. the 3rd row in the highlander and the escalade are small, and not suitable for long drives with adults. or any length drive with princesses or other loud complainers.

Besides the RAV4, I believe the Mitsubishi Outlander is the only other truly compact SUV that has a 3rd row, but it's a joke. The RAV4's is also very tight but the Outlander's is a crappy jumpseat-thing. I do like the RAV4 otherwise and that would be my choice if you want to stick with a small SUV. It does not have a lot of negatives, and even the 4-cyl version feels peppy and agile around town. The V6 also gets excellent fuel economy and is quite fast, but is obviously more expensive.

I think you're on the right track with the Mazda5, also. It's cheap, fun to drive, fuel efficient, and very flexible inside for cargo/passengers. It has sliding doors which is a big plus if you have kids. Note, however, that it only seats 6 whereas the RAV4 can actually seat 7 if absolutely necessary.

Unfortunately, both the RAV4 and the 5's 3rd row seats are not where an adult would want to spend much time, which is unavoidable in vehicles this size. You have to step up to a midsize SUV to get a more usable 3rd row and at that point there is no MPG advantage over a Sienna or Odyssey. If you want to keep the mpg over 20 combined with a 3rd row your choices are extremely limited.

Check out the Saturn Outlook/GMC Acadia. Plenty big and is equal to minivans when it comes to mileage.

I like the Lambdas too, but he wants cheap. The cheapest Lambda (a base FWD Outlook) starts at 28K, Acadia closer to 30K.
The Mazda5 starts at 18K. A 3rd-row equipped RAV4 is more because they force you to get AWD, but it's still possible for less than 25K.

For the second time, get a used Cadillac SRX. Cheaper than the new Acadia etc and better anyway.

Who are you putting in the 2nd and 3rd rows and how often? The third row is pretty small in all but the GMC Yukon/Tahoe, Toyota Sequoia, and Ford Expedition/navigator. I had to have 2 car seats so the second row was only foldable in the above. If the passangers are only kids in the third then may be able to go with GMC Acadia, Honda Pilot. I also heard that the 4runner had a third seat option. Gas milage pretty much sucks unless you go with a V6 Model, or a mini-van.

Mazda 5 is a mini minivan, Rav4 is a compact SUV.

We will have two kids in booster seats and one in a carseat.
So they should all fit in the one row, teh third row is to offer the option of maybe transporting extra kids, or move a kid back there when we have an extra adult in the car.
