I agree with your first two sentences, but your third sentence is

Do you know what the repair bill is on Porsches?

There is something special about new cars. Noone has sat in them before, noone has owned them before. You are the first owner and you can choose how to maintain that car from the start. If I had a choice of a used Infiniti G35 or a new Mazda3, I would buy the new Mazda3. Less headaches, warranty and you'll get a better resale value when you do decide to sell years later.

Corolla, Echo, maybe some used Scions, Civic (if you don't mind it being like 2002 vs. the others being quite fairly new). The Ford Focus and the Sonata were both awarded as being some of the most reliable cars this past year so you might consider them as you could probably pick them up fairly new as well. My pick would be the Corolla - you should be able to pick up a 2005 one for that much.

I'm really surprised that a 6.0 L V8 would get better MPG than the 6 that's in the boxster. Good for GM.

Get a used Camry. The money you save because you have no repair bills will allow you to buy an even better car next time.

I have a 2002 Altima 3.5SE manual trans, but it was $16k Cdn, a little more than you want to spend.

I love the car... it goes like hell and it's been trouble free so far!

Yeah, what worries me about the Altima is it's the same transmission on the 4-cyl as the 6-cyl. I may look at one though, I think I'd rather have the maxima, the 3.0 in the 2000 was alot easier to work on. The 3.5 upper air intake has to come off for alot of repair on the newer ones, even plugs...

Sitting, I don't mind. My thing is that there is probably a lot less chance someone has farted in it. I mean, I sit in a used car and sure, it looks good, but I think to myself, in the 1-3 years someone has owned this, what are the chances they've farted in it one their way somewhere, or perhaps had some back seat fun?

The odds are high, and so I try to stay away.

Do you get lots of snow? Subaru; late 90's/early 00's Legacy or Impreza. AWD, 2.5L H-4 165HP, 23MPG+ city, fun to drive, reliable as hell. You can get a loaded Legacy GT, probly 99/00, for your price range.

Yeah we do get lots of snow. Buy I've driven FWD and RWD in the snow. It's not a problem if you know how to drive in the snow. Never been too crazy on Subaru....

An 01 Altima is more reliable than the new body style and better on gas than the Maxima
Good choice.
A VW can have issues OK if you have a good dealership close by, but I've never seen any TDI's as cheap as 10 in those yrs your looking at and if you do I'd wonder whats wrong with it?
