YACT: Which American Trucks to get?

I'm in the market for a Pickup truck. I don't want to spend too much money. I want something in the Ford Ranger/Dodge Dakota class.

Automatic Transmission,
Club cab (1/2 doors in the back), I guess that's pretty much it.

Dakota is bigger than the Ranger. It's an in between class.

The reviewers are suggesting the new Colorado & it's the newest mid size platform.

They criticize it's engine & ride, but still put it @ the top of the class.

it looks nice but it's expensive.(colorado) I think Ranger or Mazda is best combo of inexpensive.

From the experience with our families Silverado, I can stand by Chevy.
