YACT: Where is the defroster relay on a '96 Escort

Squisher

Lifer
Rear defroster won't stay on, the defroster switch acts like a momentary switch.

So, I went to autozone and they sold me a relay that they said probably contains the "delay off" of the defroster. I asked if they had any diagram in the computer to show where it goes, but they said no.

Well, I've looked and looked. No luck.

If you don't know, can you link me to someone that might.

you're real comedian there

No he is right on, it starts with something simple, for me it was the blower motor resistor, soon your car will have an intake manifold leak, a dead transmission and then will simply refuse to power up any of the electronics... then you have to hawk it on Ebay because it costs more to repair it than to buy a new car.

No frost today.

Actually, this is like the spare car, but no one was driving it because it had a few things wrong with it. Now that I have a little time between selling our house and moving I decided to fix everything I could find on our older cars and trucks. I don't know what kinda time I'll have once we move.

Yeah that's where I'll be headed Monday.

I don't know about your car but on my old Probe it's located under the dash on the drivers side. Have you looked down there? Just take a flashlight and look up under the dash towards the side of the car.

look under the hood on the left side... there is a whole bunch of relay switches...
if it is not there... look under the glove box... where the feet go... look up.. there should be a little box of relay switches.

🙂

Looked at both places. Box under the hood has one relay for fuel injection. Looked everywhere before I posted.

I figure it's in the dash somewhere, in the center console, or behind a kick panel.

I just thought I'd ask before I stripped the car down to bare metal. 😱

i have a 91 and 96 escort... both 5sp hatch back. the 91 has some under the hood and others under the glove box.

in the 96, it is a rather large panel just to the right of the clutch. i figured that you would have noticed that, so did not mention it.
I do know that the fuel reset switch... if that it what it is called ... is behind a panel in the trunk/hatchback.... i think there is some other stuff there, too... but i am not sure.
