YACT: When changing the coolant, is it sufficient to drain radiator, or do you have to drain the block as well?

you can buy a flush kit at wal-mart or any parts shop that hooks up to garden hose. FLushes old collant out, add new coolant.

Simple.

If I were you I'd just drain twice as often and not bother with the block. In the case of both of my cars you need to be almost god-like to get to the block and unscrew both bolts and then actually screw them up again. I bet nissan has a special tool to do it. It's so obscure as to be silly. I just drain the rad, fill it up, and be done with it. You only change out half the coolant each time, but it's a LOT easier.

Or, as mentioned, you could use a flush kit and flush it all with hose water if you want. Then if you were anal you could run distilled through it just to remove hose water deposits,t hen fill up with your coolant mix.

Hey, some people do it - I've read it! Seems like a hassel and a waste of distilled to me ;)

I didn't "flush" my radiator..... end up "almost" destroy my car due to overheating issues.

I did have to replace the radiator and water pump..etc for about $700+

My heat doesn't work anymore due to the same issue. I need to replace the heater core in the winter. Maybe I'll trade the car in for a fast car.

You can easily drain youur block by removing your lower radiator hose, this will drain 80% of the coolant in the block.

Yea, these work well in my experience. Just cut one of the heater core hoses, slip in their 'T' fitting, and your ready to go. Hook up the garden hose, take of the radiator cap, and start the car with the heat on.
