so my car got dinged, and there is this unsightly paint scratch that came from the other car.

my car might also be scratched, but I want to take out the paint at least

what is the best way to do this??

EDIT: how bout using rubbing compound?? I hope that will work in taking out the paint?

Rubbing compound and a rag for starters. See if it helps. [edit] My wife dinged my dads car with her door on accident and left a bit of a mark on it from our car when he was visiting. He wasn't all that upset (it seemed) but I was, since his car was brand new and he hasn't had a brand new car in eons. When he wasn't looking I lightly went over it w/ some rubbing compound and a clean cloth and was able to get the mark to disappear. If you really looked for it you could find where the metal is just ever-so-lightly indented but it's seriously so minor I'm sure nobody would ever notice and at least the paint part is fixed. I think he was happy I fixed it. I was at least a bit relieved it worked out. [/edit]

Bring it to a body shop and see what they say (or visit a few dealerships used car lots, and ask who they use for detailing and if they can help you out). They might be able to wetsand it (or something else I'm not familiar with ) w/o you needing a new paint job.
