YACT: What's the best oil for me to use....

I have a 97' Toyota 4runner that I bought a couple of months back. It looks like the dealer I got her from took her to "Jiffy Lube" and they used Penzoil (not my first choice of places for an oil change, but oh well).

I don't know any other history prior to that.

My first question: Would it be okay, and/or beneficial, to switch to a synthetic? Or should I just stick to the regular stuff.

Either way, tell me what brand you recommend (or don't as the case may be) and why.

Thanks.

Cliffs: What's the best oil to use and why?

I like Mobils new 7500 oil. As much a Syn as most out there but cheaper.

and 10W30 is a good weight unless it gets REALLY cold where you live.

OH and don;t use a Fram filter, they are JUNK

the price is ok compared to ther brands on the walmart shelf, i think ive been using Fram for the last 10 years on different kinds of vehicles. But that same kind of thing can happen to any other oil filter, if you check the numbers im sure the fail rate its below 2% but i cant be sure about this.

As a mechanic I can say not only from what I have read, but what I haev also seen, Fram is a waste of money and a ticking time bomb.

The Tech2000 filter at wal-mart, that is a full $1 or more cheaper, is a better filter

i debated the last time i was at walmart between tech2000 and fram, from marlins comment, looks like i made the right choice
