Some say it's possible to shift without the clutch while syncing 1st and 2nd gear or whatsoever. I don't get. Anyone care to enlighten me?

You have to sync the engine speed to the transmission speed. Get it revved up pretty high in first and right when you let off the gas, SHIFT. And so on. It's hard to get going from a dead stop, though, so don't.

ah, thanks guys, not worth it then huh? How can you know when the engine and the transmission have the same speed?

you'll feel it. You don't want to shift too quickly though. It'll be a "clunk" when it engages 2nd. Dude, just try it! Good practice ICOE and it's kinda fun.

Here in Europe, find me a rental which has NO stick :) Here are like 90% of the cars stick.

Let's say you're in first...maybe 20mph at 4000rpm. Second at 20mph is what..2700rpm? Disengage from first gear (you should be able to feel what rpm the stick will freely move from first gear w/o the clutch..if not, try accelerating, then slowly easing off the gas while giving the stick a little bit of pressure..you should be able to feel it slip out of gear)...rev to 2700rpm, then shift to second. I've never done it personally (and RPMs there are a guess..it varies by car)..but IIRC that's how it goes. I use the clutch..that's what it's there for. :p

That doesn't wear the clutch at all..since you're not using it.
