YACT: What's so great about an NSX?

I was at an Acura dealership today, they had two NSXes - one used 2004 and one new 2005. What's so great about them? They're only 290 hp. I gathered from the sign on the 2004 that they only made 300 of them (based on the part where it said "#24 out of 300 made"). If they made 10,000 of them, would people think they're anything special?

They used to be produced in larger numbers. Good cars but overpriced and low hp.

Lightweight. Mid-engine. Wonderful handling. Gorgeous engine note. Honda reliability. Very pretty design IMO (at least before they went to the strange headlights on the newer iterations). I understand the NSX may not be the world's most exciting supercar, but it offers a great set of attributes for real-world driving.

True. But it's an $80K Honda. I'd rather have a Porsche 997 Carerra S for the same money.

1) it is the first production japanese supercar that can compete with earlier ferrari's (such as the 348) and porsche's...
2) it is mid-engine, natural-aspirated, producing 270 bhp. in 1990, there are not many engines that can pull out 270 horses.
3) it's light, making it to be nimble on a track, mid-rear layout also helps.
4) it's hand-built.
5) it's reliable, unlike similar offerings from italy.

and watch you get smoked by the NSX.
BTW, anyone see the video where the NSX smokes the 911 turbo around the track?

I didn't mean I'd buy one! ;) I certainly wouldn't buy a new one, in any event, but a used NSX seems like a wonderful second car to me. It's the only mid-engine car, IMO, that isn't a dicey proposition as a used car.

In the early 90's (when the horse power was even less) The interiors were hand stiched.
Good lookers and great race cars.

This is why the nsx is the engineering masterpiece it is. I realize its the R version, but its still the same chassis and basic parts of the base version. IMO this is one of the best refined cars ever.

The NSX is UNGODLY fast around a TRACK.

Yes it has less HP but any car fan will KNOW the NSX is AMAZINGLY fast around a track. Handles and has great corner speed abilities.

Watch any Best Motoring show and you will see how fast it is compared to the other cars. The Jap NSX BHP is under rated to suit their laws.

It isn't as fast in a straight line but around a track it GOES.

Lovely car. I wouldn't get one but it is still a fantastic car!
