YACT: What's a good material for keeping my exhaust from rubbing with the chassis?

The otherday I accidently backed into a ditch with my car and in the process my exhaust pipe was bent slightly. I've done my best to bend it back, but there is still a small 1-2" section of pipe that rubs up against the chassis when going over bumps and other road elements. When the pipe rubs, I can hear a distinct vibrating sound which I would like to stop.

I'm thinking about purchasing a small piece of some sort of heat-resistant padding material that I can wrap around the section of pipe and hold on with some zip ties. Anyone have any ideas as to a good material I can purchase at home depot or the auto parts store for this?

Thanks

If it rubs, anything you put there to prevent it from making the sound will eventually wear away. Best solution, IMO, is to take it to a mom and pop (independant) muffler shop (NOT a chain, they will likely charge you too much or pitch to sell a whole new exhaust) and have them take the bend out; they may do it for free or for a minimal charge..

check out the plumbing tools section at your local home depot. They sell a fireproof fiberglass matt. It's about 4" wide 6" long. It's used to protect things when you are using a propane torch, so it should hold up to exhaust heat with no problem.

Seriously bend it some more or get some exhaust clamps to fasten it down better.
