If you were going to buy a new car and you knew you'd have 200K+ miles in 5 years, what would you get?

Obviously with those kind of miles gas mileage is a factor. A hybrid maybe?

Just curious. I'm not yet in the market, but just looking around for ideas.

Something cheap and reliable like a corolla, civic, or echo...

To me hybrids haven't prove their reliability... They haven't been out that long yet, and whether they'll have problems down the road is still waiting to be seen...

A used Mercedes Turbo diesal. :)

good gas mileage, probably won't spend too much and it'll run great for a long time.

I actually thought about a pre-owned mercedes, but everyone I know with a used mercedes spends as much per-month on parts/labor than a new car payment.

Ford Aspire or Festiva, My mom had a festiva that had 400K miles on it before it got wrecked, the car had been flooded and still ran fine for 150K miles.
A friend of mine had a aspire and he got about 250K miles before it got totaled.

I'm glad you brought that up, cause most of the cheapest cars ar not very comfortable, but I wouldn't want an expensive car since it will be practically worthless when I'm done with it. Must be a happy medium?

Definately go used. You can find something much more comfortable for the price.

age has more to do with reliability (or lack of it) than miles, IMHO
