ok my car is officially dead.

I have the option of either getting a brand new car for around 15k or getting a used car that will last me 3 years and get me through college and get a better car then. The two cars that i am thinikng about are , a '92 Infinity Q45 with 85k miles for $6k. or a brand new Neon SXT for $13k.

The infinity is nice i just dont like the color so if i was to get it i would have to paint it. The thing my parents and i are worried about is if i go for the infinity where to get it serviced, and how much longer it will last.

If it was your decision what would you choose?

ill go for the used car route too... but you better pick a good one of you might end up spending more money trying to keep it running.

You can't add a poll, you have to put it in when you initially post.

If you're just looking for a car to last you through college, definitely go used. The Neon will be too small for carting around your buddies anyway.

Definitely go for the Infinity. I know its just over 10 years old, but it is a much more reliable car than the Neon. If you are only keeping it for 3 years, then don't waste the extra $7k on a Neon.
 
Don't buy a Neon. By the same token, don't know if I'd go with a luxo car like the infiniti either. It can be tempting for $6k but who's to say how great it'll be if stuff starts to go. (Talking out my ass a bit since I don't have any numbers on reliability and what not.)
 
I'd go for a newer used car. 10 years old is just too old, no matter how nice a car it is. And you're going to drop even more money to get it painted? Bad idea. Just get yourself a nice more recent used Maxima, Accord, etc.

Granted he will only have it for 3 years but he could end up paying alot more if there is any major break down were as the Neon at least he would have a warrenty on it and after 3 years he could use it for a trade in and get a better price as for the used he really wouldnt get as much.

Only problem with that is the Neon won't hold its value well so he'll get shafted when he wants to sell it.
 
Neons are pretty bad man. I may be wrong but in my opinion, my friends who had neons all say they're pretty bad and unreliable cars.

ive heard this as well, i jsut went and drove the infinity again and gonna make an offer on it, so i guess im decided, if i had a digital camera id post some pics but alas, anubis has it with him

Go for a used car because it's going to get beat up at school anyway. I wouldn't look at such a hi end car though. I would look for a newer and more practical import like a Honda, Toyota or Nissan and get something with fewer miles.

i would go for a used 4 banger accord lx but out of those 2 i would go with the neon though both would be very low on my list if i were in your situation
 
If you get a 92 Q45, while they are VERY fun and FAST cars to drive, watch out theor thier gizmos like hteir active suspension....I'd suggest you get a LS400 of the same vintage...total reliablilty.
 
I would get the Neon.... you don't want a car that isn't reliable (maybe you shouldn't get a Neon at all! 😉 ) but after college you probably will be making a lot more money anyways and you would get a lot more money for the Neon.

The few thousand dollars that you spend for the Neon will buy you piece of mind in reliability will get you through college and a few years into your job. Then you can purchase a good car (hint: Acura NSX).

but if you purchase the infinity... you have a higher chance of running into costly service repairs and other things associated with older cars.

Over 2k.... and color will still be off in some areas... inside engine compartment etc etc
