I've been becoming more and more independant lately and I just started a full time job for the time being (sh!t work at sh!t pay, but it's to get on my feet so to speak, and good experience)
anyway, with all the crap going on here, i'm feeling pretty trapped with no transportation other than the bus/metro systems and having to depend on others for lifts. So I figure since I was able to up my credit limit without a prob, and once I've been working full time for a while I should have no prob taking out a 2-3k loan right? That would be just fine for my own real first car. however, I'm not looking for a "beater", so to speak. I already beat up other people's cars enough to learn how to take care of my own. 😛
The thing is, I'm torn between choosing the "cheap efficient" route or the "gas guzzling but fun" route. If you've read Ultima's car rants about his Dodge Shadow - you should know that I wouldn't want something like that. 😛 If I get something thath as poor gas mileage, I want it to be a fun car. If I get a car that has panzy-ass acceleration then I want it to get at least GOOD mileage (ie, more than 20-25mpg if it's a 4banger).
so... I could look for an old 89-91 model Honda, that would be affordable - but then again everyone I know who's had those cars beat the CRAP out of them. The only used honda I would want to buy would be a granny-driven one, which is rather rare, I think. If I succeeded, I would have a good reliable gas efficient car... but it would be a pussy on wheels. On the other hand, if I look for a used muscle car or at least a car with some guts, it may not be reliable (but it COULD be), but it'd be FUN... and there's more chance that a camaro owner took care of his car, compared to a civic owner.. don't you think?
I'm just picking this up from the people I know.. one guy I know has a civic, and he beats it up... one of my best friends has a plain old v6 camaro but he takes good care of it. I know other people who have camaros and they take excellent care of them as well.. see where I'm going with this? The only other person who owns a CIVIC that doesn't kill it, that I know of, is my mother... which doesn't count. 😛
So, which route do I go? The ideal would be to have a gas efficient cars for those "damn gas prices are expensive" days, and a car with balls for weekends and those days when you just need to gun it down some countryside roads.
[*]What cars would you suggest for the efficient route?
and
[*]|What cars would you suggest for the "fun" route?
Within reasonable cost of course... late 80s to early 90s models..
