I just listed my car a week and a half ago and have had 10 e-mail and about a dozen phone calls. About 5 people have been very interested and the people from South Carolina will be at my home in about 2 hours.

I have the car listed for $1950 and I don't want to accept a lower offer because it was justed listed 2 weeks ago and I have a lot of interest.

If the people from South Carolina try to offer $1600 or something, should I just politely tell them that I haven't had the car for sale long and I've had much interest so I don't want to bring the price down yet?

Drop up to 10%, if they don't take it at that or higher, then be nice but tell them XYZ is the lowwest.

I would say "I'm sorry you drove " << couple.getDistanceTraveled() << " miles for nothing. Later cheapskates."

Or try counter-offering with a price above 1950..

Them: 1600
You: 2300

Them: 1700
You: 2200

Them: 1850
You: 2050

Them: 1950?
You: Sold!

Lol! The people are making a 7 hour drive to test drive this car and said that as long as it drives fine they will buy it. But I am afraid they are going to be like "Well, I've driven 7 hours and now have to drive 7 hours back for a $1950 car. Can you sell it for $1500 for our trouble?"

Agreed but I would replace "Later cheapskates." with "Thank you for wasting my time and yours, have a fun drive back <insert smirk>".

I always list my used cars for HIGHER than I expect, to allow for some "bargaining". That way I get what I feel the car is worth and the buyer assumes they got a good deal :)

how far they drove is IRRELEVANT to the price of the car. i'd stick to your guns. if they are willing to drive 7 hrs, i doubt they drove that distance EXPECTING to get a 30% discount. i think they decided to make the trip with $1900 as the selling price in mind. if they did anything else, it's all on them.

Shoulda listed with a bit of a buffer to make them think they were negotiating you down when you settled on your 'real' price ;)

Stick to your guns. Let them offer and say you're firm at $XXXX price since you have X other offers at the moment.
