well, i know i prolly should, but i'm a little tight on cash... can the replacement wait? the mechanics told me that this is what makes my check engine light go on.

It measures the mass of air going to your engine so the fuel injectors can squirt in the right amount of gas.

All kinds of problems can cause the check engine light to go on.

Your first task is to find out what caused the light to go on. Many auto parts shops will do a computer scan for free. Start there.

listen to Noggin, go get it scanned, MAF's are pretty pricey to just go buy one without verification it's the actual problem... I have only known 1 MAF to go out too, and when it did there was no SES light, the car just DIED.

is it a Ford?

common,they have a cleaning kit available,cheap to try to clean the wire off

you can try some good electrical cleaner,for cheap,first,
unhook the battery before you try anything.
