I ran into a weird issue the other day...

I have a 15 gallon tank. I've been kinda busy, so somehow I let my gas gauge go down to E before I got it filled up. when I was getting gas, though, it only filled up to 11 gallons before clicking off, and my gas gauge only went up to the 3/4 mark.

anyone have any thoughts as to what the issue could be? it was also at a gas station that I'd never been to before, so I guess the issue could be on their end, but it's going to be a couple weeks before I need to get gas again.

could be vapor something or other - that's how the pump knows to stop pumping. Usually I pull the handle out, shake the bed of my truck for a few seconds, stick it back in and keep pumping.

edit: I didn't mean that to be a sexual innuendo. promise.

car year make model? and what gas station are you usually filling up at?

on some cars the gas pump just clicks off early. My fathers car does that. It has to do with vapor recovery nozzles and how they sense that a tank is full by the rush of gas vapors that escape as the tank gets fuller and fuller.

Tha gas filler neck tube on the car could also be faulty; they can be expensive to replace however.

I just dumped $1,300 into my car for repairs... throw in 2 months worth of gas, and I'd still only have enough for 45 round trips from my house to my office, including tip.

so no ;)

1997 ford escort... it's falling apart at the seams, but it was free and I only need it to hold out for another year and a half :)

I usually go to Hess, but it happened at an Exxon station (due to being on E, I went to the first gas station I came across after realizing how low I was).

...I've had that happen on a few vehic.I've owned..the in fuel tank elect.fuel pump also has a sending unit for the gas guage and it becomes intermittent..got to change the whole assy.to effect a repair. So I live with it till the fuel pump fails or time change it at 100k if you keep it that long. They don't make gas guages like they used too.....:disgust:

It's definitely the pump. I notice this a lot that when I go to certain gas stations, I never quite make it to F when it clicks off and says it's done. Pisses me off because it's just that much quicker I'll have to stop for gas again.
