so i was driving east on 38th street, trying to get to class (the roads are for the austin peeps). this guy was waiting at the stop sign on the little feeder lane from 34th to 38th... he was trying to turn left so he could go west on 38th street.
anyway, i was driving up, and i guess he didnt see me coming cause he decided to cross over and turn left. he saw me, i saw him and he froze and i tried to stop, to no avail. the thing that makes me all worked up is that his car (geo prizm) suffered almost no damage (the license plate was ripped off the fender) and my car (mazda mx-6) suffered a lot of damage...
the car wasnt driving well, and the alignment seemed way off (i had to keep the steering wheel turned 90 degrees left to go straight), so i just took it to the midas at 40th and guadalupe. the estimate is around 1300 bucks and that doesn't include the cost of fixing the body damage (front right side quarter panel will have to be replaced, along with the bumper prolly). the tie-rod and the link on the front right side is all bent up, and the wheel bearing on the front right is bent (i guess, that's what the mechanics said anyway). the front right side tire is a little wobbly and is at a permanent tilt to the right.
also, the front tires need to be replaced (they were not in a bad shape before, still had some life on them), and i guess the breaking wore that life off.
the mechanics said that i couldnt drive it around (home) as the wobbling would make it worse and cause the right front wheel to pop off. sigh, now i need to find a ride home (i live 6 miles out).
thankfully, i've already called up his insurance and the other guy had done the same as well. they had already set up a claim number (at least he was honest about it), and i can call them up tomorrow and get it taken care of.
the wobbling is very slight now and the tilt to the right is also not very bad (about 4 to 5 degrees, i'd guess).
you guys think i can drive it home tonight (otherwise i'd have to leave it at midas and find another way home)?
