so i was driving east on 38th street, trying to get to class (the roads are for the austin peeps). this guy was waiting at the stop sign on the little feeder lane from 34th to 38th... he was trying to turn left so he could go west on 38th street.

anyway, i was driving up, and i guess he didnt see me coming cause he decided to cross over and turn left. he saw me, i saw him and he froze and i tried to stop, to no avail. the thing that makes me all worked up is that his car (geo prizm) suffered almost no damage (the license plate was ripped off the fender) and my car (mazda mx-6) suffered a lot of damage...

the car wasnt driving well, and the alignment seemed way off (i had to keep the steering wheel turned 90 degrees left to go straight), so i just took it to the midas at 40th and guadalupe. the estimate is around 1300 bucks and that doesn't include the cost of fixing the body damage (front right side quarter panel will have to be replaced, along with the bumper prolly). the tie-rod and the link on the front right side is all bent up, and the wheel bearing on the front right is bent (i guess, that's what the mechanics said anyway). the front right side tire is a little wobbly and is at a permanent tilt to the right.

also, the front tires need to be replaced (they were not in a bad shape before, still had some life on them), and i guess the breaking wore that life off.

the mechanics said that i couldnt drive it around (home) as the wobbling would make it worse and cause the right front wheel to pop off. sigh, now i need to find a ride home (i live 6 miles out).

thankfully, i've already called up his insurance and the other guy had done the same as well. they had already set up a claim number (at least he was honest about it), and i can call them up tomorrow and get it taken care of.

the wobbling is very slight now and the tilt to the right is also not very bad (about 4 to 5 degrees, i'd guess).

you guys think i can drive it home tonight (otherwise i'd have to leave it at midas and find another way home)?

Usually the guy who goes through a stop sign turning left. the guy without a stop sign usually doesn't have to stop 😛

yea... i had right of way. he was a nice guy. we didnt get mad or anything, exchanged info, and went on. he called his agent, i called my agent, i called his agent, and we're all set up. 🙂 that's the good thing.

I didn't see anything a bout a police report. You DID get his insurance company's phone number, right? I'd just take it to the best garage around, get a rental car and let his company deal with it.

Edit: OK, that last post cleared it up. Good luck!

I would drive, or have it towed, to the body shop and have them repair all of it at the other person's expense.

Do you park in the C lot? If so, do you park by the road and does your MX-6 have non stock wheels?

hehe, nope, i park at / near the hyde park church. then i catch the IF bus over to the engineering buildings. i've seen the mx-6 you're talking about though.

just take a bus back. they are free for students 🙂

err, i live way off campus, the bus involves a transfers and combines a 20 minute walk (to get to the stop from where i live) with a 30 minute bus ride. i'll be doing that tomorrow though, until i can talk to their insurance to get me cleared for a rental car (hopefully that'll happen since my car is in a non-drivable condition).

i guessed where you live by the street names.

hope you care isn't too screwed up.

hehe, i don't live by there 😛

and the car's front right wheel is totally screwed up, but i called their insurance claims adjustor today and after taking my statement, she said and i quote "well, it was our fault and we will pay for all the repairs." so, they're gonna pay for the internal and external repairs 🙂🙂🙂

and they're also paying for a rental in the meanwhile. so, i went down to enterprise and the only mid-size car they had was a caddy. i was like, "sweet!"😀

and then the enterprise lady said "there's no way we're giving a 19 year old a caddy" and called up a nearby store to see if there were any other cars available 🙁🙁

and so she found me a chevy malibu :disgust::| ah well, at least i have a car in the meanwhile and will get everything paid for 😀😀
