aww that's sad. but remember that car was not made for the creature comforts. it was made to pwn every car in it's category and finally something has come out after 4 years that is comparable. Oh and Toastedlightly, you are lucky to be able to drive that thing with all those mods.

Well then why doesnt everybody get an 89 civic and build that up??? Not everyone wants to have to mod their slow car to be fast.

the stock tC is pretty fast, and its still a nice car like i said i own one so i gotta promote it

The handling is  compared to any other decent sport compact, though.

most ppl i know with tC's drop them and put in sway bars..some of the better drivers are competitive @ auto cross races

Nah, taking steps to de-rice. No more wing ftw. And the LSD + better suspension (H beam and roll bars up front) ftw!

All that money to make a Neon fast? Why not just get a nicer car to begin with? Seriously, I'm not trying to be a prick. Just saying pouring a ton of money into a car with a notoriously bad resale value is a bad move. Sure it's nice to have a fast 'sleeper' but after the novelty wears off you're stuck with a Neon that no one other than a teenager would want.

Well an SRT-4 really isnt a sleeper since it's faster than most cars you will see out there and umm you dont get that car cus of resale value, if you wanted that, get an Accord. Not everybody buys cars just to get rid of them later, some people actually like their cars and keep for for a long time. It's just a Neon until it beats you, then it's an SRT-4 cus no one wants to admit they got beat by a Neon.

That gigantic wing (cue STI or Evo) ruins the chance of it being a sleeper. Remove the "SRT4" badge and that wing to make it one! :p Then you can kill 75% of what's out there leaving them with the most confused look ever: "Was that... a Neon!?!"

Yeah because the huge dual exhaust tips and front grill don't give it away.

Ahh people arguing over my car, I think this is the first time in history this has happened over a Neon, I better relish this moment.

Oh ok, cool. I am actually now considering the Si just because of the looks. I told my friends about the GTI, and they were like, "yeah, I heard it's fast, but isn't it like a small minivan?" IDK, the closed-mind about hatchbacks here in the US is much different than in Europe, where hatchbacks are way more popular.

I'll wake the thread up with an OT question -- I have a chance to get a 2005 Civic Si in a unique situation with 513 miles on it..

It has a salvage title, but here's what happened. Someone stole a lot of the interior out of it. Seats, steering wheel, stuff like that. So the insurance company put the salvage title on it, and this dealership fixed it up. They want $11.5K for the car which basically is brand new (assuming they put everything together inside OK). To tell about the dealership it's a little odd situation. It's a well-established car audio company that started selling cars about 2 years ago. I'd gone down there to test drive a 89 MR2, 03 echo and 97 tacoma (all pretty decent cars really).

I dunno, I'd have a mechanic check it all out.. but it may be worth a little risk especially if I can talk them down on price another thousand or more. On the other hand, it could be stolen and poorly redone. I did sit in the car, and things felt OK (ie clutch and shifter, steering wheel, etc). If it did end up working out I know the salvage title is gonna kill the resale value .. but I don't think I'd mind keeping something like that for a long long time. I'm kinda mixed it. Anyone have any thoughts?

To steer it more towards on-topic .. I don't know anything about the VW, but I like the civic Si. If I had the $ I'd probably try to get a WRX, but I hear the civic drives pretty well in its own way too. Kinda nice if I was able to get it at this price too, even if it's 40hp less than the new 2006/2007's..

Personally I would go with a Cobalt SS Stage 2.

241 hp and 218 lb.-ft underrated with a supercharger. Oh, and is 300lb's less then the GTI and about 40lb's less then the Si.

With the longest warranty on powertrain in the industry, I think you are sitting really pretty in it!

Only problem is when you want a new car after 2-3 years, your Cobalt would worth next to nothing compare to Civic and GTi.
