The battle of the hot hatch! Which one would you pick, and why? If you think something else in its price range is better, then please elaborate. :) This is for the 2-door versions of both of them.

I would take the SI.

Honestly though only because I am pretty sure it would still be working after a few years.

Other than that, I think I prefer the looks of the GTI..

GTI without a doubt. The 2.0T is brilliant little motor. That and it's just the easier car to live with on a day to day basis.

FWIW, I've owed two previous VW's.

I used to own a GTI 8V and loved that car but man was it unreliable.

I'd have to vote for the Honda here.

GTI here. It would be easier to mod. A chip and instant 50+ hp, 30 tq

umm have you ever heard of honda??? there are a million more mods for a civic than prolly every new vw put together. it is cheaper to mod a civic and there are more parts out there for them.

sorry to be "the guy", but it's "poll" not "pole"... hehe. Also, I would take the Si FTW. I currently have a non-Si 2006 civic and I love it.

I've driven both and pick the Si hands down... 8k rpm redline, that's one characteristic I like, I really don't give the slightest ****** if people say it's rice, it's a fun car and hearing the engine scream to 8,000 rpm is amazing.

The GTi was nice, but I didn't feel it was that great, maybe the gearing was part of it? The civic feels like you can drop it into a gear at any time and start at 6k rpm, the GTi is more of a car that seems to be tamed down. I didn't like the handling or transmission anywhere near as much... as for comfort, interior, etc., those didn't really matter to me in the difference between a Civic and GTi.

When I think VW, I think electrical problems.

Getting 50HP out of a VW will be a lot easier and cheaper than most Honda's - the VW comes turboed from the factory.

exactly my point. When it comes to modding, turboed cars are much easier to wring hp out of for cheap than NA cars

Yeah, let's not even count the amount of time that the different mods to get that same power from each car would take... in one case you're replacing an electrical component, in the other you'd probably have to slap on FI of some kind or do 50 different little modifications as well as Type R stickers.

Viggen 3door Hatch in Silver (Mine is Yellow-it's in the pic). Found a low milage specimen for $14000.

Viggen Hatch

30hwy/25city

250hp/349tq, 5speed, most comfortable seats ever made, full leather, Onstar, TCS.

Saab Viggen

I've driven an R32 and a Civic Vtec-theyre both slow compared to this car-and their interiors are horrible.

That is a sweet car. I bet that color is pretty rare too. :)

He might have been talking about replacement parts. I'm not sure about VW's, but comparing my Honda to my dad's Volvo, everything is cheaper to replace, even the rotors.

I like where this discussion is going! I'm not really digging the look of the Viggen that much, it looks... outdated. :p Oh, and I spelled pole like that on purpose... FF has a spell checker you know. ;)
