YACT: Vinyl tops on cars?

You're just used to import go-karts, which don't use vinyl. But, in the same way they started increasing the size of their econoboxes, creating minivans, SUVs, and now even full size trucks, so shall they start offering vinyl tops. No more superfluous than the cute little spoilers on the rear ends.

It's definitely an old fart thing. Seen quite a few 'camrys' with dealer-added vinyl tops. It looks so bad. Usually they do it to Caprice/CrownVic's and a few Caddy's. But Camry just doesn't look right with it. Especially the 96 and earlier ones. The newer body style that's more angular is not quite as bad.

Anyway, I don't think it adds anything. It certainly doesn't make the inside temp cooler, etc.

Someone who visits one of my neighbors drives a Civic with a canvas landau top and a touring rack on the trunk. It's highly amusing to see a Lincolnized Civic!

Vinyl tops are a fantastic feature. Lets glue a moisture holding sponge on the top of the car and see how it ages. When they have torn bits flapping in the wind they are at thier best. Replacement or refinishing is a true joy to con$ider.
My personal fav is when paded vinyl is applied to the top of the doors, fools me everytime.
Someone once said,"Few people have lost money in America when appealing to poor taste." 😉

Really, it was a PITA... however, it was a style that was popular in the 70s. I had to use a vinyl protectant on it, and I didn't like the idea of trapping moisture up there. HOwever, I never had any problems with it. It was super easy to wipe bird crap off of slick vinyl.

Clean looking ride!! Do not take my comment seriously. In So Cal the sun and multiple
owners take thier toll. You guys in the Midwest seem to "take more pride in your ride."😀
