YACT: Used non-girly convertibles, any out there?

Looking for a decent car that isn't one of the girly chic cars. Probably something from the mid-90s, good reliability. Not a daily driver, just something for the hell of it. Looking for under $5 or $6K. Might be better off just getting an old mid-late 60's muscle car and spend a little more.

Any idears?

I vote for an old car. You will have to work on it once in a while and you'll learn something too.

I'd rather have a classic but if you want modern day conviences a 89-93 5.0l mustangs are not a bad choice. The rx-7 verts are damn sexy but lack power.

the thing is, how much of the stuff you learn from working on old cars would be usable on modern cars?

Pretty much everything but tuning the carburetor.

Anyway, here's a mid 90's convertible that you could find plenty of examples of in good shape for $5-6k. Not a chick car, either.

Edit: changed link to a car w/ better pics.

It's odd, because whenever I think Mustang convertible, I only picture 3 girls in bikinis in a car singing 'I wish they all could be California girrrrllllllls'. The even more odd thing is it doesn't depend on the year.

Early 90's, I picture the Saved by the Bell crew in it.
New (read: ugly) body, California girls from some dumb tv show or something.

I'd stay away from a mustang convertible if I were you. You might as well just get an Eclipse.

Thats only if you get the 4 banger version and is it such a bad thing having a car the 3 chicks in bikinis like to ride around in :)

Gotta vote for the Mustang.

The Nissan, Saab and MR2 mentioned above are definitely girly cars.

You could, but what would the point be? He doesn't seem like the regular rotory fanatic and the 7 convertable has the weak engine.

Another vote for that 300ZX

If you weren't so strapped for cash I'd look into getting a BMW convertible or a Supra convertible.
