OT but: if you do get it don't park it in a highschool parking lot. I don't know about any others, but the highschoolers here have a habit of getting in groups and turning them sideways in their parking spots so you can't get out until the people around you leave... Quite funny

Holy, kids in your area must be crazy.

I seriously looked into one a while ago, and as far as I could tell, they're solid, reliable cars with great motors, few problems. I ended up with a protege5, though, because in terms of practicality, I'd rate it somewhere between a zero and a one.

They do it to alot of small cars though, miata's are just so light it only takes 5 or 6 of the football guys to do it.

Reminds me of my dad telling a story about the old VW bugs, if they had a parking spot he wanted, he'd pick up the front, because that's where they locked down in park, and the motor was in the back so it was light. He could roll it out of the spot and park his car... leaving the VW to be towed... wrong but funny.

I've been looking at them too. I just wish the used ones weren't so dang expensive. Even a good shape 94 model is going to cost you darn near $5k.

extremely reliable and extremely easy to work on. added a supercharger to my 94 at 87k miles. I now have 102k miles. it has never left me stranded anywhere, ever.

I got a '94 Miata w/ 108K miles on it now...had it for a little more than 6 months now. They are really reliable, since Mazda's been making them for a while now and worked out most of the kinks. With regular maintenence of fluid/filter/belt changes, the Miata motor has been known to run past 200K miles. SoCal is an awesome place to own one :)

They have very reliable, usually needs a re-built around 12 yrs (a norm for a lot of cars), but if you are looking at 01-02 you are definitely fine

BTW, check this thread. Lots of people with high milage miatas. There was actually a thread asking who had the most milage on their original engine and someone had over 500k miles. Can't find it at the moment though.

bump for more opinions since i'm looking for one right now, debating on spending 5 grand on a 1994-1997, or spending the extra 3-5 grand on a the gen 2
