Well, here's the situation:

My mom's 2000 Dodge Caravan recently got totaled in an accident. She wasn't at fault, so the other driver's insurance will pay off the van. However, this will still leave her without a vehicle. Right now, she doesn't have any money to put down on another vehicle, so we're in a sort of a bind because the rental goes back on Wednesday. She was thinking about trying to get a used car through getayes.com, since they say they would be able to get a vehicle with no money down (not the best thing in the world, i know). Since i know there are quite a few vehicle gurus on the board, I figured i would ask if anyone had heard about getayes.com, or if there is anything that she needs to look out for in particular before getting another car?

What's her budget?

What kind of car/van/truck/SUV/wagon is she looking for?

If she was not at fault, she needs to get in touch with a nice personal injury lawyer. If after getting paid for her van she doesnt have enough for a down payment, she didnt get enough from the insurance company for her old van. She holds the cards here, dont let her get screwed by the insurance company.

Providing there's no injury to her, what you are suggesting = fraud.
For a 2000 Caravan, she should get something more than the loan payoff, unless she has a high interest loan or pay retail. Those Dodge minivan usually has tons of rebates in them which somewhat helps their miniscule black book value (used for insurance payoff), plus she can somewhat recoup whatever downpayment she put on it.

Try Carmax as well. They have tons of used car and usually have wide array of loan that they offered to buyers.

Rossman:
From what she says, she is looking into a mid-size sedan, no particular models in mind yet. Probably something under 8-10K used, between 98-01.
