So I've got this weird problem with my truck's headlights. Sometimes when I pull the switch to turn them on, they don't light up. Sometimes I have to try a few times before they do. Sometimes it's a matter of waiting until they finally turn on.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

<edit>

Okay, so they wouldn't turn on tonight. I can pull the high beam/low beam lever toward me and it turns on my brights for as long as I hold the switch towards me. That worked, but neither the high beam nor the low beam posititions worked.

Is that any more helpful?

Id check the fuse area. My taillights in my car would randomly work until they just stopped altogether. Replaced the fuse once, it was burnt within seconds, replaced it a second time and it works like a charm.

Upscillion without knowing the year, make, and model I'm just guessing here but I would be leaning towards a worn switch. I've seen this type of behavior on the older style pull switch as the internal contacts start to wear out. I've also seen heat damaged connector to the switch cause this condition.

Overloading the circuit to the switch by installing additional lights or higher amperage bulb causing excessive load on the circuit can damage connectors.

Good Luck,

It's a '92 Ford Ranger. It does have the pull style switch for the lights. Fog lights were installed on it by the previous owner, so perhaps that might have done it. Who knows.

I will probably just take it into one of the shops in town. Or I'll have my brother look at it. He owes me $100 anyway. :p

Thanks for the input!

I have a similar problem with a Ford Escort... when I pull the turn signal lever to turn on the high beams, sometimes I end up with no light at all for a second or two. Not the greatest thing to have happen at midnight on dark twisty rural roads.
