yact: turning circumfrence

I was driving around my dad's honda minivan and noticied the turning circumfrence was way better than my Infiniti I35 (2002). Is there a reason why infiniti did a sucky job on the turning circumfrence?

lots of cars can't turn worth crap, my dads maxima (pretty much same as the I35) is the same way.. mediocre turning circle.. i am sure there are many factors on why the turning circle sucks.

You want horrible turning radius? Go hop in a Monte Carlo. GAH! That thing needs it's own tugboat to get in and out of tight spots.

I honestly don't know what makes the difference and I don't know how they exactly measure it.

The Infiniti is (basically) a US specced car (ie the only place I've heard of Infiniti is in the US and on these forums). The Honda is a Japanese specced car.

Americans don't do corners, everywhere else does.

Therefore, the Japanese car will turn better.

What I mean is that they also sell them elsewhere in the world, therefore they have to be able to do corners.

My camry was always pretty good about pulling into tight spots, even with a pretty long hood/nose. My passat is even better. So good in fact, I find myself over correcting and pulling in crooked.

I would assume wheel base length has some impact on it. Hence the reason trucks don't turn for poop unless you have that GM quadrasteer on them. Does tire size make any difference? It seems like the bigger the tires on the car, the less tight the turn radius.

My '03 Maxima was made in Japan and has the widest turning radius of any vehicle I've owned. Probably almost as bad as my Toyota Tundra was. Maxima is sold all over the world under different names.

Edit-I think you are confused. I think it has more to do with tire width and wheelbase than where the car is marketed.

Interesting but I still didn't expect a minivan to to better. Aite thanks all.

Well, I understand that... but there are different specifications for different markets. It may be the case, however, that the chassis/platform needs a certain level of ability. Even then, though, Infiniti cars are just rebadged Nissans, and Nissan is sold in other countries as well.

Long wheel bases and wide tracks hurt turning radiuses. Sometimes (rarely on cars, often on near class B trucks) you can actually pull in the turn stops to turn tighter, but then you need to make sure you're not going to rub on the fender/suspension.

I don't know, but my friend's 88 Ford Ranger has the tightest turn radius I've ever seen. Even my Saturn or my old Sunbird couldn't turn as tight as his truck did.

i don't know, my accord has the worst turning radius of any car i've ever driven, minus my uncle's F-350 Quad Cab Dualie.

generally RWD > FWD for turning radius, so it's a surprise that the infinity does worse than the odessey.

But isn't the I35 FWD? IIRC its just a rebadge Maxima......

I think designers/engineers are getting better at making FWD cars with tighter turning radii. I'm not sure what the limiting factors are but I would guess its CV joint design and space.

i have an '04 mazda 6 and the turn radius is pretty bad. not horrible, but definitely noticeable compared to my dad's saab9-3.

I drive a '92 MX-3 Mazda as a work car and it turns around in a very tight circle......can make a u turn pretty much anywhere.

it can be related to engine size. my eclipse has a v6 which is a large engine, and has a very poor turn radius because the actual turn of the wheels can not be as far. my old civic on the other hand, could turn around in any narrow street.
