YACT: Trouble starting up in the morning.

This is my wifes' car. In the morning it usually takes at least 2-4 times of turning the key to get it to start. But it usually starts on the first try after work at night, every once in a while it takes 2.

This morning it took 6 and this afternoon 3. Not sure if this is a progresively getting worse, but we are going to be taking a few longer drives in the next month and I would rather not get stuck somewhere.

What does it sound like to you? Bad spot on the starter and just getting randomly lucky/unlucky? If thats the case how much do you think it would cost to fix.

I appreciate any feedback, since Im kinda clueless when it comes to some car issues.

What do you mean by it takes XX "tries"?

Like you turn the key and nothing happens but a click, or you turn the key and it turns the engine over, but it doesen't start.. so you have to stop for a sec and repeat?

Hmm.. Does it run fine other than that?

Clogged fuel filter?

The first couple of things I would check would be the battery and/or alternator. We have a 91 Chevy S10 and the alternator on it was replaced about 2 years ago. The starter on it was replaced not that long ago either. Since the vehicles are of similar age it is likely one of those.

If it sounds like it is having probs turning over then it could be the battery or alternator. If it is turning fine but just not cranking its possibly the starter.

No it turns over fine.... not the normal click click..

It goes ERM ERM ERM ERM ERM ERM ERM...... ERM ERM ERM ERM ERM ERM ERM

Like its trying to start, but not kicking in....
