On a lot of newer cars (typically $20k or greater), under instrumentation i see something called Trip Computer. What is it and what exactly does it do?

I think it varies. Mine gives average mileage, distance traveled, distance until the tank is empty, engine hours, and compass/outside temperature.

you have the nicest truck ever..

It's a pretty cool feature to have - my parents' Jeep Liberty has one. I like the compass/temp thing.

My dads Maxima does not have this, but I am pretty sure the newer ones do... my car doesn't, either... my friends Volvos have them.. kinda neat to have.. funny watching the MPG go to 1 when you floor it 😛

Yeah, I wish mine did real-time economy, that would be cool (I believe last year's model did). I only get average since last reset. Oh well. 🙂

Mine has a mechanical counter that goes up to 1000 miles and then rolls over. It has a little "reset" button, too.
