YACT: Tranny won't shift???

I drive a 91' Lumina 3.1 V6 automatic, with 109xxx miles... It's had tranny problems in the past, and engine problems, for some odd reason my mom keeps taking it to get fixed, even though she's spent almost 3x the value of the car getting it fixed...

My big problem now is that my tranny won't shift out of first gear... Yes, its very very sad, and I'm hoping that when she says she wants to get me a new car she actually means it this time, but anyways...

When I'm in overdrive, drive, or 2nd, I can get up to about 45 mph in first gear, and thats taking it towards the limit, than I hit the revlimiter in drive (which I didn't know was possible or not, but it happened)... When I pick back up in the throttle, in overdrive and D it feels as if I'm in neutral, the engine just maxes out the RPMs, but in 2nd I can pick up speed again, but I'm running really high RPMs (I can hear my engine screaming)...

Any thoughts/ideas that could be causing this??? Was hoping something very cheap could fix this problem, so I can drive it a little more into the summer before having to get a new car...

Yes, and I keep adding some about ever 2 weeks (dexron-III micron)... and when I check it when I change it, its the color of coca-cola and has the same thickness...

only color of tranny fluid i've ever seen while in the bottle is red...

I'm not sure I understand this part. What markings are on your shift indicator? (PRND21, etc.)
