YACT: Tire sidewall bubble

I figured that a bubble in the sidewall would be a manufacturer defect, especially when it appears in only 6000 miles. Yet I am being told that this is not the case and you have to cough up the 140$ or whatever the case may be for a new tire. Bridgestone Potenza RE92's. Not my car.

Clearly it has to be fixed asap, considering in the last 24 hours it has swolen from the area of a small grape to the area of a thumb... Anyone ever gotten tires with sidewall bubbles replaced under warranty?

It's a defect.

Don't be a pvssy - raise some hell and get them to swap out your tire.

warranty.

There is no excuse for them not to replace the tire.

although a strong pothole hit can do that. The tire is unsafe. Please get it fixed before you blow.

I was racing around with one of my buddies today and when we were unloading our cars, I noticed it on his tire... (he had noticed it the other day but wasn't taking it seriously) I googled while he made some calls and this is where we are...

<< worried 🙁

no, they have them on a lot of cars. They're on my mustang, on my buddy's maxima.... I've noticed all kinds of car's from lexus' down the spectrum that have them....

They should replace it under warranty as long as there is no visible damages in the vicinity of the bubble .ie, scuffs, or pinch marks from a pothole or curb impact. Raise a little hell with them and it should be replaced.

Was the PSI over the manufacturer specs? That causes it sometimes.

I have had this happen on my firestones once (PSI was inside spec). Dealership told me it was not a warranty issue and I ended up paying 100$ for a new one.

Its not a defect if he hit a pot hole hard. There's no reason for a sidewall to bubble otherwise.

So you're saying that the only possible cause of a sidewall bubble is hitting a pothole hard?

lol

No, he's saying that hitting a pothole is by far the more common way to cause a sidewall bubble. Especially considering that the Potenza RE92 is a tire that has been in production for a while, in a variety of applications and with no prior record for manufacturing defects.

You're kidding right? Please tell me you are....

RE92's are the stock tires on several cars, including Subaru Impreza WRX's and 2.5RS's (not STi's), and I think they are one of the worst tires ever. Soft sidewalls that squeal and cup (fold over) under even moderate cornering, and relatively poor rain traction (they harden as they get older and will hydroplane in a terrifying manner before the tread hits the bars even, found this out the hard way on my GF's 01 RS -- it was a long drive back from Seattle in that rainstorm). Ugly too. Snow traction is acceptable for a "performance" all-season tire, but that's about the only thing I found acceptable about them.

I wasn't kidding.

I just forgot. I was thinking about other bridgestones that I liked so much. Their "high-performance" tires. re750s I think. nah, just looked it up - S03.

And on the rain traction I found the re92s to be pretty darn good. But then again I'm used to tires that suck at pretty much everything but dry pavement.

😉

Ah, that's different. Except for being a little heavy and having no snow traction (they're summer tires), S03's and RE750's are kickass tires.

RE92's are very good in the rain when they're newer but watch out when they get past 20k miles!

true dat about the 750s, s03s.

when there was snow on the ground I literally wasn't going anywhere...and this was in a front wheel drive car.

i'll give the re92s their props. I got 50K out of them with very agressive driving.

I'm on the RE030s now on the TL. so far I like them.
