YACT: Tire question and i need an answer kinda fast.

Replacing a blown out tire. Do i need 4 new tires since it is 4wd.

It's the back right so i was thinking, for now atleast, just getting two new rear tires. I really have no idea...

Replace the ones that are worn out.
Don't replace good tires just because it's a 4x4

4WD or AWD? Part-time or full-time?

If regular truck-style part-time 4WD, and the tires were relatively new, you should be safe replacing just an axle pair. Make sure to get the EXACT same tires.

If full-time AWD, you should replace all 4 unless the tires were nearly new.


edit: read your post below, answered my question. Replace the rear 2, you should be fine.

But if i have slightly different tires, won't that cause more wear on the car itself. To my knowledge i need 2 new rear tires atleast so that the slightly different size(from wear and other stuff i guess) don't damage the rear differential or anything like that. As far as the front ones go.... I think i will be fine until i out it in 4wd, which is atleast once a months(camping or just screwing around) I would think that different tires front and rear could cause damage to the 4wd gear box.

I don't really know for sure, but i was hoping atot could help

It's 4wd, i have a secong gear shift, that shift into 2wd, 4wd h, and 4wd l. All four were replaced at the same time last time, i guess i will just get to rear tires that are the same EXACTLY as the front. Thanks guys, btw i will try and post the crappy camera phone pics of the blow out. I was missing a lot of tire by time i got off the freeway.

Your tires will always have different wear. Especially if you don't rotate them often.

If the new tire has significantly more tread, you should get the other one on the same axle replaced. Replacing 4 tires I think is only necessary if you are switching models or brands, and is more to do with not causing problems with the AWD systems that try to adjust the rotation speeds to compensate for road conditions, thereby getting confused by the speed differential between front and rear tires.

That at least is the information I found when determining what to do about my tires when 2 of them had worn treads.
