I need to replace a rim for my '01 Toyota Corolla. The size specfications I need are 14x5.5 but apparently no company produces that size? I asked one tire specialist and he recommended getting the 14x6 rim instead but wouldn't that stretch the tire (the tire size is 5.5 in width)?

Tire will be fine. Downside is the rim is likely to be heavier and result in poorer acceleration. You might want to check out some junkyards if you're talking about an OEM rim.

Can't you just get a factory wheel replacement?

I mean it's just a part.

Otherwise see this as an excuse to get some new wheels/tires.

Toyota charges an insane price (like 4x) for a rim. The tires are relatively new and are still in great condition, which is why I'm reluctant to get a new wheel.

What's wrong with the wheel? Bent/cracked?

As mentioned above a junkyard may be a good idea or googling around for a place that will sell you a OEM wheel. I'd be very leary of using a whell that wasn't matched to the rest from a handling and asthestics perspective.

Bent. :( Fackin' craters litter the highways here in the city.

I did try going to junkyards for oem rims but they are very rare apparently. Tomorrow some autostores are re-opening so I will have to check with them again if they can contact any of their partners for info on who sells that size. Toyota is charging $199 per rim and I see them at that same price for 4 in some stores although a slightly differnt size.

$199?

I got my OEM rim from the Toyota dealership for 80ish.

Look under hubcaps and/or wheels in your local yellow pages. Most "hubcap stores" can also get OEM rims for anything. A used OEM rim should be < $100 no problem.

You can also have your rim repaired - I looked into it and for a standard aluminum rim about $75-125 to repair. Probably a decent option.
