YACT: Those of you who use Synthetic Oil, what is your Oil Change Interval

Me, Mobil 1 in two of my cars, and change between 5k and 7k depending on whether I did a lot of city driving or not.

I use it in my parents LS1 Camaro, and I also tell my customers every 6K when using mobil1.

Now if 90% of your driving is highway then add another 2-4K then, if mostly city then every 6K

that entirely depends on the kind of motor in your car, consult your owner's manual.

I change every 5k miles w/ Mobil 1. I do 400 miles a week on the highway though, should I go another 2-3k miles w/ it?

You're a fool if you go longer than recommended in your users manual without oil analysis. Especially if you drive in any "severe" service conditions, including but not limited to: Extreme heat, extreme cold, dust, frequent short trips, 30%+ stop & go highway, 50%+ city driving.. regular, long extreme grades requiring a downshift, light-to-light racing, etc.

I think generally, it's 3750 miles for Severe Service, 5000 miles for "normal", and 7500 miles for light duty.

Light duty does not mean "driven very little". It means 80%+ steady highway driving. Frequet, short trips are actually much harder on your oil.

I change every 3k with regular oil. I thought this was the norm.

3,000 miles. I use synthetic in my air-cooled cars. Oil temps can top 300 degrees on a hot day.

I do 3K miles on mobil 1 and still looks kind of dirty when I take it out.

Yes, I know that is not a reliable indicator of anything, but I hear stories of people changing their mobil 1 at 5k and it still looks new.

Every 7,500 miles per manufacturer's recommended service interval. I do that regardless of what type of oil I run.
