Should have bought a Toyota.

All kidding a side, good luck. I'm looking to get more into doing stuff myself with my car.

Did I only get 2 codes at Autozone by chance or was Ford lying to me?

I would replace the O2 sensor and see what happens. Also, check the wires and plugs out before you just replace them - they may be fine. You can probably do all this yourself.

The O2 sensor code is definitely the sensor or the wiring. I'm surprised that they would blame the intake gaskets for a misfire without any lean run codes, P0171 & P0174. I would follow through with your suggestion of changing the plugs, wires, and fuel filter. Plus Chevron fuel treatment can't hurt. A bad DPFE sensor can cause the EGR flow code (P0401) it's quite common.

Where are you guys getting these insane quotes from? Seems like every car repair thread I see, mechanics want double or triple of what the standard "honest" cost would be.

$1300 was from a dealer (no surprise...)

When I had my 67 Mustnag, I had an awesome mechanic near my old job. I haven't found a decnt one in Hoboken yet, so I am kind of stuck with the evil I know...

If the EGR code (p0401) comes back then i would say you have a bad DPFE sensor. The oil light/pressure is starting to sound like worn engine bearings or a bad pressure relief valve in the oil pump.

What's involved in those repairs?

Originally you said you needed an intake gasket replacement
- was that not the case, in the end?

The DPFE is a fairly simiple repair, usually less than an hour labor including diagnosis. The engine bearings and/or oil pump will require removing the engine from the vehicle. :(

Just an FYI: i had the upper intake gasket changed on mine a couple weeks ago. I was leaking coolant and that is where the leak was. For that repair, and an oil change, i was out the door at about $650. The gasket is 7.3 hours of labor according to my receipt.

Good thing you don't need that done...or the way it seems is that you don't.
