YACT: Symptom of a Transmission going?

Basically from a cold start the transmission takes forever to catch when you put it from P to D. Should we be worried about the transmission going? (This is a highway car). This just started happening recently. BTW we just had our tranmission fluid flushed.

well, Powertrain untill 160 000 km. Its just that we HATE the local mitsubishi dealer. They are a bunch of incompetent idiots.

(Edit) Does Powertrain cover Transmission?

yes.

Take a look at the transmission fluid and sniff it, if it looks brown, has metalic flakes in it or is burnt smelling your transmission is on its way out and should be repaired ASAP. It might be a problem with the transmission controller or something else otherwise.

if it was just changed and it looks like this, then you definitely have problems 😛

Did you use the reccommend Mitsubishi Transmission Fluid? I had a similar problem on my Montero Sport until I changed the fluid. God I hated that thing...

Not a good sign, could be simple (doubtful) but either way - get it looked at NOW.

As much as you mayhatethe dealer - you really have no choice unless you want to travel to another dealer.

Ooops, Missed that part! 😱

Stupid thing to mention I know, but check to make sure there is enough fluid in there. Had my transmission fluid flushed once
and they didn't put enough back in. Needless to say I wasn't too happy.

If the wrong fluid was used during the change it can change the shift charecteristics of most transmitions. Call up the place where it was done and ask what type of fluid was used. It's also not always using a lesser grade fluis but sometimes if you use something like ATF+5 in a vehical that only requires ATF+3 sometimes you will still see a negative change. Same goes for mercon and other types of fluids as well.

Excellent point. But I disagree on the ATF+5/ATF+3 issue. ATF+5 is backward compatible.

And if the Mitsu trannies use the sane as Chrysler, I doubt they put the right stuff back in, the proprietary Daimler/Benz fluids are VERY expensive.

There's MANY different types of ATF fluid.

I was just using that as an example. When I worked at a garage it was typical to get cars back after a flush with ATF+5 when they only took 3 or 4.

ATF+5? 😕
AFAIK ATF+4 was the latest and greatest.
IF mitsubishi uses Chrysler transmissions in thier cars then ATF+4 is required, if Dexron III/Mercon were used your transmission will wear its clutches out very very quickly.
ATF+4 is more "slippery" than Dexron.
Also any place that says Dexron + an addative is the same as ATF+4 is lying to you.

Update: I had went on friday but they told me to come back on monday 🙁 jackasses

Also the car has started 'jerking' as you drive it now.

Definitely sounds as though the wrong fluid was used if there were no problems prior to the flush.

ZV

the thing is I do not know if there were problems prior to the flush or not, this is because I was away at College, came home for the weekend and that was what I noticed. When I talked to my brother about it , he started yelling and said 'thats how the car is supposed to act when cold' I told him to STFU and then he starts blaming me on the problem. What a fcker

UPDATE: after begging them to take the car, they FINALLY decided to take it after the engine light came on (I couldnt take it that weekend when I was home). I hate it, I HAD BEEN TELLING THEM FOR 3 WEEKS TO TAKE IT!!!!!!!!!!! My mom listens to my brother cause she thinks "hes more mechanically inclined" I fvcking hate it. He was telling her that the car was fine and that I was over reacting.

And now after they TOW it there, Mitsubishi says the TRANMISSION is GONE! I was like see I told you! But they dont give a fvck (act like my brother told was right cause he only told my mom to take it AFTER the engine light came on), I hate it, they fvcking dont listen to me.

Next time I'm not saying anything and letting them deal with it.

On a side note, Mitsubishi is paying for a Rental Car (Honda Civic) while this Galant is away.
