I'm at about $1,700/year for a '95 Mark VIII. 23 years old, male, no accidents.

Was $1,100/year when I lived in Ohio. Fvcking city insurance rates.

nothing really to do with size or value of a car....it has to do with claims.

You wanna show me where I said the accord can't be run over by a big rig?

I'm just saying economy cars don't really cost less to own than a midsize car so why the hell should I drive an econobox?

i hate to break it to you, but it ain't the civic that's the problem. it's the 23 year old male in san francisco that's the problem. <25 year old males get shafted enough as it is, but being in SF is not helping your cause, seeing as how it's pretty much the worst place on earth for a car to exist. any place where the locals think running into your car repeatedly is a perfectly acceptable way to parallel park ("it's just city living") is not a happy place for Mr. late-model car. Combine that with massive thefts rates in general and especially for Civics, and horrifically dangerous day-to-day driving conditions, and it's just all bad. my bassist and his GF, who live in SF, both have cars that are covered with scrapes and marks from parking. well, his GF's car did until someone ran into it and totaled it. his best friend? just got in a bad accident. my GF? just got her car stolen. my drummer? got his stereo stolen. this is all within a 6-month period.

sorry misunderstood, however your price differenece of $3-4k is subtantial in the non-new market.

even the new market a budget task for many.

Well that's just Mass. When I was there I paid around $700 for insurance for my accord. Then I moved out of taxachusetts and I now pay $600 for TWO cars.
These are 6 month rates.
