23 single male, SF, CA.

(6 month rates from 21st century)
2002 civic coupe ex: 779
2004 civic coupe ex: 711

compared with
2004 accord coupe ex: 663
2002 accord coupe ex: 637
2001 accord coupe ex: 623
2002 celica gt: 737
2004 tsx: 752

understandably, integra rates are super high (850-900+) as well as that of preludes (979), but a civic? i expected something in the 500 range. they get stolen a lot, don't they?

That's really cheap. I pay about $2000 a year for minimum coverage and I'm over 25 and had the discount already. Insurance in NJ is a scam, the companies seem to wield too much power.

still makes no sense cause a 2004 accord can be insured for lower than a 2002 civic.

Did you call insurance company first or buy car then realize? Hopefully you now plan on getting an accord.

still car shopping. i've been having problems finding an 00-02 accord coupe so i started exploring the civic. if the insurance was cheaper, i was going to overlook the cramped quarters and dinky engine, but now it's pretty obvious i'm going to wait it out for an accord.

Wow, that's a little too high for Civic, although there are a lot of variables.

25 yr old male. I pay $685 for 6 months for my G35 coupe. :D

Damn I dont miss kid insurance rates. It costs me $428 a year for my wife and I for our 92 g20 conversion van.

But then again back when I was a kid insurance wasnt manditory till I was in my early twenties and at that point would buy a year to get a card then cancel it. Not till I got married and had kids did I even think about insurance. and now that I am the rates are so low I can afford it :)

compact cars have poor insurance costs. I used to have a 2000 corolla, it got ran over by a big rig, I got a 2003 accord and my insurance cost stayed the same, ~600/half year.

Also my gas mileage is pretty close between the two cars, high 20s mpg mixed with hard driving. The only real cost difference is initial cost, ~3-4K more new.

Needless to say, I probably won't ever buy another compact car.

your accord can take a 'big rig' hit?

nothing really to do with size or value of a car....it has to do with claims.

I have gone to popular commuters to nicer cars and netted the same insurance.

Corvettes are insane to insure when young...insurance companies know they are obtainable and wreckable. I was ready to buy a ZR1 in 1995 or so...a couple years old, but they wanted $4k-6k a year to insure with full coverage...I was 24. I'd probably pay off the car in insurance before the payment coupons were done.

I bought a 92 Acura GSR, then a year later a 97 GTI VR6 both were pretty uncommon. I still miss the VR6...fun and practical car. My 240sx is coming up, but so much to do on it.
