Today I reach for my door handle and it slips and the handle smacked down pretty hard. I pulled again and the handle is very loose. Apparantly the metal rod or something broke inside and now I cannot get inside my car without going through the passengar side and opening the driver door from inside. I haven't got any estimates to see how much it will cost... has anyone had this done before?

My car is a 2001 Cavalier and I have warranty still, but don't think it covers this kind of stuff. Is it something I could do on my own? Thanks for any help/suggestions.

That should be covered under warranty. If your dealer won't fix it, take it to another dealer. It is a flaw in craftsmanship and thus, covered by warranty.

I believe the warranty on those cars is 12 months/12,000 miles, thus not covered under warranty.

ALL GM cars/trucks are 36 months/36K miles

It will be covered IF it is the fault of the part/parts. But if it is because of him tearing the handle up like he stated, then it should not be coverd. But chances are the dealer will replace it under warrenty anyways.

Well, not "anything"... The brake linings, wiper blades, and clutch disc are not covered. ;)

I did get the extended warranty, so that should cover it.

Not necessarily. Extended warranties come in all sorts of flavoers and each has their limitations.

Look through your documentation and see if door fasteners (or hardware, or whatever) is covered.

If I were a betting man, I'd say that your door problem would NOT be covered by an extended warranty.

Could you be MORE of an ass? No, didn't think so!

Good friend of mine had to have his wondrous Camry handle repaired. I don't think you want to know how much that cost, do ya?
